The Detroit Prohibition Bus Tour

Saturday, June 8, 2019

10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Join us for four hours of fascinating Prohibition history in Detroit! Explore the American side of the "Detroit-Windsor Funnel." We'll visit former Detroit speakeasies, areas where booze was funneled into the United States, and a number of other secret Prohibition-related locations.

The tour is an immersion in the Prohibition era--music and stories along with a number of intriguing Prohibition artifacts! You'll enjoy learning about this time in Detroit's history where enterprising residents took advantage of Detroit's proximity to Windsor, Ontario.

Your guides are Marion and Armando--two descendants of bootleggers and speakeasy operators and they bring with them a special insight into the era. Your guides will regale you with the stories, locations, and lore of the era. Marion is a former interim executive director and director of tours for Preservation Detroit, a Prohibition maven, local historian, and a longtime Detroit tour guide. Armando, a Detroit historian and three-time author, is a highly sought after presenter and shares a passion about this era in history. You'll be amazed at what you learn on this tour.

The bus leaves from the Eastern Market area at 10 AM and returns to the same location at 2 PM--on the corner of Wilkins and Russell Streets. There is a free parking lot across the street from the tour starting point. A special goody bag is included in the price of the tour, along with snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic). While we don't encourage alcohol on the bus, you are welcome to order drinks at a couple of the establishments we'll visit.

This is not your usual Prohibition tour-- we will show you the glamorous and not-so-glamorous sides of Prohibition. You'll learn how to spot former speakeasies and check out areas where booze was transported along with a number of other compelling bits of information about this time in our history.

Prohibition style dress is encouraged, but not mandatory! We would like you to be comfortable and have a great time! Please note, due to the historic nature of this tour, some venues have uneven floors and may be difficult to navigate. Please let us know if you require special accommodations.
